HISTORY OF SARGENT SAND
Sargent Sand Company is truly a “family business.”

Founded in 1919 by Ford Roland Sargent and still owned by the Sargent family,
Sargent Sand Co is proud to be in its 4th generation of family ownership.

In 1983 after the passing of her father, Francessanna “Fran” Sargent took the
reigns of Sargent Sand Co. Today, the next generation of leadership is taking
place and her son, Tom Webber plays a very active role in the day-to-day
management.

Sargent Sand has supplied silica sand for the energy, foundry, glass and other
specialized industries.

In our 94-year history, which began with a dream by a cigar shop owner and his
son in Saginaw, Michigan, the Sargent group of companies built a long resume
and history in mining, warehousing and logistics.

Other core businesses that the Sargent family has been in have included
highway construction, paving, gravel mining, gypsum mining and owning and
operating numerous river port terminals.

Our Ludington sand mine has served the glass industry, foundry industry and
the oil and glass industry with customers such as Coca Cola Bottling, Libby
Owens Ford Glass, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Chrysler and
numerous oil and gas companies.
